Ukraine Increases Cattle Exports in First 8 Months of 2025
Since the beginning of 2025, Ukraine has shipped the largest volumes of cattle to Lebanon, and the largest batches of beef to China and Azerbaijan, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers. According to preliminary data from the SSSU, in August 2025, Ukraine exported approximately 1.01 thousand tonnes of live cattle, which is 49% less than in July 2025 but 35% more than in August 2024.
Dairy Product Exports Decline in August After EU Quotas Exhausted
In August, Ukraine's dairy product exports decreased due to a halt in EU shipments caused by exhausted quotas and lower butter prices, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
New EU Agreement Provides for Increased Dairy Product Quotas
The new trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU provides for an increase in duty-free quotas for key Ukrainian dairy exports. This includes butter, with a 233.3% increase (up to 10 thousand tonnes per year); skimmed milk powder, with a 308% increase (up to 20 thousand tonnes per year); and condensed milk, with a 150% increase. However, to gain greater access to the EU market, the Ukrainian government and businesses must complete the harmonization of EU production standards for animal welfare, veterinary requirements, environmental protection, pesticides, and GMOs by 2028.
